The Holiday Farm Fire East of Eugene/Springfield

Normally, for a fire of this size, there would be more than 1,000 firefighters mobilized to attack it, he said. But on Wednesday morning, there were only about 190 available among state and local resources, reflecting an overall lack of firefighters available to battle the many fires across Oregon and the West. As of 4 p.m. Wednesday, there were 46 active fires in Oregon that had burned nearly 477,000 acres.

Very frustrating that able bodied volunteers are turned away from joining in the fight until now I had no idea of the lack of resources that is the case.

"We are not getting opportunities to get a line around this fire right now — we're trying to rescue people from these communities still, we're trying to stop this fire from burning down whole communities when we can."

Some volunteers who were turned away by the Oregon authorities on Wednesday came to the New World Farmstead and helped her put together a trailer/pen to evacuate goats and chickens if necessary. We are still not in an Evacuation zone as their is a lot of Springfield and Eugene between us and the fire unless it dips south and follows a rather doubtful path.
Basically we have I-5 and quite a bit of civilization between us and the fire.

Dragonheart says the governor should call out the National Guard, if that was possible it seems like a good idea.

I went to Oregon National Guard Facebook......

 https://www.facebook.com/OregonGuard/

It says they are on standby....

With situations continuing to change, the Oregon National Guard is monitoring the ongoing conditions to respond and support local agencies when requested. The Oregon National Guard has three teams of 125-members red card trained and on standby to support wildland fire efforts.

 (apparently) a guardsmen posts ...

Why haven’t they called up any of the NG firefighters? Are we just supposed to be on “standby” and watch our communities that we joined to protect burn

  ???? Very interesting....

Apparently authorities are confident that there 190 or 209  personnel can handle this.

Hmmm...?  0% Contained ... burned 145,000 acres so far ... about 15 or 20 miles from Springfield, but the winds are supposed to start coming from the West and that should help and hopefully the right decisions are being made all around. Stop worrying Guy,  I am going to take a nap.
