One of Three .... Perot

Three powerful individuals left the Planet this year. I will attempt to keep their ‘vibrations’, the echoes, ripples of their lives alive in this moment of writing and perchance at this moment when a
visitor comes across this writing they might get some inspiration, find some kindred vibe, maybe discover something new, refreshing or maybe interesting.  if you are young it’s brand new if you are old it still might be new. Something new in looking back on the past.

Tomorrow people, where is your past?
Tomorrow people, how long will you last? Ten years!
Tomorrow people, where is your past?
Tomorrow people, tomorrow people, come on
Don't know your past, don't know your future everyone
Don't know your past, you won't know your future, every man
Don't know your past, you don't know your future, come on
Don't know your past, you don't know your future, hey

…. the words of Ziggy Marley’s song suggest that both the past and the future
  have great importance to today.

    To  H. Ross Perot
          Robert Hunter
          Ram Dass

    H. Ross Perot ran for President of this here USA back in 1992….

He ran an independent presidential campaign in 1992 and a third-party campaign in 1996, establishing the Reform Party in the latter election. Both campaigns were among the strongest presidential showings by a third party or independent candidate in US history. ‘

I voted for him both in 1992 and in 1996. At his reform party inauguration ball he had the band lead off with Willie Nelson’s (and Patsy Cline’s) hit ‘Crazy’ as he and his wife danced alone on the floor. By the time 1996’s election rolled around he might have seemed indeed almost certifiable, but there was no way I could bring myself to vote for Bill Clinton. If that seems hard to understand I can understand that ..

‘Perot did not support President George H. W. Bush, and vigorously opposed the United States' involvement in the 1990–1991 Persian Gulf War. He unsuccessfully urged Senators to vote against the war resolution, and began to consider a presidential run.[26][27] ‘

     H. Ross Perot for me was exasperating, flawed (as we all are) honest and courageous human and he offered an alternative to the slick approach of Clinton, (who would send the Democratic Party on it’s current tilt towards Globalization and over Immigration) the Bush alternative was the worst ….

‘At one point in June, Perot led the polls with 39% (versus 31% for Bush and 25% for Clinton). Just prior to the debates, Perot received 7–9% support in nationwide polls.[40] The debates likely played a significant role in his ultimate receipt of 19% of the popular vote. Although his answers during the debates were often general, Frank Newport of Gallup concluded that Perot "convincingly won the first debate, coming in significantly ahead of both the Democratic challenger Clinton and incumbent President George H.W. Bush".[41] In the debate, he remarked:

Keep in mind our Constitution predates the Industrial Revolution. Our founders did not know about electricity, the train, telephones, radio, television, automobiles, airplanes, rockets, nuclear weapons, satellites, or space exploration. There's a lot they didn't know about. It would be interesting to see what kind of document they'd draft today. Just keeping it frozen in time won't hack it.[42]

Perot denounced Congress for its inaction in his speech at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C., on March 18, 1992; he said:

This city has become a town filled with sound bites, shell games, handlers, media stuntmen who posture, create images, talk, shoot off Roman candles, but don't ever accomplish anything. We need deeds, not words, in this city.[43] ‘

Perot in many ways was an early leader of the Tea Party. The infamous ‘movement’ that emerged in 2008 that was quashed quickly by both Republicans and Democrats. The Republicans saw the threat to their established Monetary Empire and the Koch Brothers rode in with something called ‘the Tea Party Express’ to attempt to control the ungovernable leaderless opposition to Federal bailouts, American Empire and the Destruction of the American Middle Class… Which they did in their way managing to wrap the ’T Party in the Red Shirts of staunch Republicanism while ignoring it’s roots as a Red White and Blue rebellion. The Democrats did their part to staunch Americans from believing in themselves as an Independent force, vilifying the movement as a bunch of ‘know-nothings’ and then having the Republicans do their own dirty work as it became just an angry sub-set of Republicanism. (Modern Republicanism …. Damn the isms and full speed ahead!)

  So it goes…

‘A detailed analysis of voting demographics revealed that Perot's support drew heavily from across the political spectrum, with 20% of his votes coming from self-described liberals, 27% from self-described conservatives, and 53% coming from self-described moderates. Economically, however, the majority of Perot voters (57%) were middle class, earning between $15,000 and $49,000 annually, with the bulk of the remainder drawing from the upper-middle class (29% earning more than $50,000 annually).[47] Exit polls also showed that Ross Perot drew 38% of his vote from Bush, and 38% of his vote from Clinton.[48] Despite widespread claims that Perot acted as a "spoiler," there is little reason to think he affected the outcome of the 1992 Presidential election.[49] ‘

  So it goes…

Is it hard to imagine that self-described Liberals and Conservatives could find some
acceptable common ground. Very hard to believe for today but I have to admit I
believe it is entirely possible, acceptable and needed.

The quotes are drawn from wikipedia.

Now I will have to hold off my tribute to Robert Hunter and Ram Dass for another post. I see these three individuals as all part of some flow of unfolding human history that we all are all part of and that Perot though he might not seem to have much in
common with Hunter or Ram Dass, for me they did, all three impacting my life, bring some distinct elements of inspiration and direction.

Thanks to Ziggy Marley son of Bob Marley for his 1988 hit song….

That I am grateful for to remind me it’s not only OK, maybe even important to know your past in order to know the future. To have a future.

Letter to the Marin Independent Journal opinion page...

If I told you I went to Woodstock some 50 years ago and feel some empathy for President Trump, would that disappoint you?  When people tell me I have to believe a certain way, the more I looked for the reasons why not.

I am burdened by the weight of my conscience and the state of the Planet. Conscience and the Environmental Movement, a connection that one might believe would be cause and effect.  It appears that most of my community here in Marin will despise Trump and be convinced that it is Republicans and Corp- orations that are the root of the destruction of the Planet. Could the convenient displacement of responsibility be the root of almost all our problems on the Planet? An ‘Environmental Movement’ that thinks electing someone or passing laws will be the answer is in my mind, not a movement at all just a continuation of the spectator sport of the TV generation, make that the internet generation.

Could a Marin County community actually exist that is an independent force that says ‘Yes!’’ let it ride on my shoulders? A force true to our inheritance from flawed but brilliant founders. I do not believe we can make it for ourselves and future generations unless we embrace what the term Conservative means, and not be afraid of the word Republican, as in, you being the source of power and you being the source of responsibility.
Is that too much? Do we crave our anonymity and with it what we hope is our innocence? It’s not my fault. I am just an innocent consumer.
Who are we and what do we want?  Ponder the importance of the lesson to our children of responsibility.  If the lesson is to ring true, you and I are not here to wait for our children todo the right thing. You and I must attempt to lead by example. Our Environment, this Planet, our government of the people, by the people, for the people is all precariously on the line.

Riding a bike is being a Conservative? Saying no to Plastic is the act of a Republican? We need to discover the path that leads through our current impasse is right in front of us. Thank you so many of you that attempt to live it in your daily lives.

'Chulas Fronteras' (Beautiful Borders .... someday)

This post was originally put together a few months back but never published, as sometimes happens. When I update it I am unable to keep it in chronological order..

“The system is clearly overwhelmed and we must work together to address this humanitarian crisis and protect vulnerable populations,” Nielsen said in a statement released Saturday after her meetings Friday with local and federal officials in El Paso, Texas, one of the nation’s busiest border crossing points. “We know that if Congress were to act, or the courts were to enforce the law as written, we could address this crisis tomorrow. Instead we continue to do more with less.
“As I have said before, I ask Congress to please put politics aside and recognize this for the growing security and humanitarian crisis it is,” said Nielsen, who is visiting border facilities in Yuma, Arizona, on Saturday.
Nielsen arrived in El Paso Friday following the deaths this month of two migrant children who were in Customs and Border Protection custody. She met with officials there in response to the increase in the apprehensions of families and unaccompanied children crossing the border illegally, including those with illnesses.
To this day my friends assure me it is no crisis. Just business as usual. For months the media and all the well meaning people who revile Trump were throwing up a litany of 'why is the President actings as if it were a crisis?' How dare he send troops to the border. What's 2,000 people? What's 7,000 people? What's 10,000 people we have plenty of room? Wake up please dear people we do not have room for 10,000 poor people when we cannot and do not take care of the Half A Million American 'poor people' aka Homeless Americans.... and the additional people who are of 'the renter class'
This event at the border should be seen as a Demonstration and it should be a wakeup call to the Blue state people… It needs deep imagination, fresh eyes, realistic vision … something new needs to begin. A policy of Zero tolerance was way overdue. A policy of understanding how we undermine and corrupt 'developing countries' needs to be found. (one of the biggest ways is our approach to immigration as we basically troll the rest of the world for the best minds of the planet to come to the US.. then we also take just the hardworking poor. Who act like kerosene on the fire of our economic system…
Ask Bill Clinton who received the largesse of George Bush senior's ….

Provisions of the Act[edit]

Foreign-born in U.S. labor force 1900–2015
The Act generally retained the preference for family reunification immigration, but place additional emphasis on employment-related immigration and created a category of immigrants from countries underrepresented in the immigrant pool.[11] Specific provisions of the Act:
  • Raised the cap on immigration from 270,000 people annually to 675,000 annually, and 700,000 for the first three years after the Act's enactment, and increased the per-country immigrant visa cap to 25,600 (from 20,000);[11]
  • For family-sponsored visas, set an annual minimum of 226,000, and a maximum set by a formula that generally yielded between 421,000 and 675,000[11]
  • Created the diversity immigrant category for immigrants from underrepresented countries (those with fewer than 50,000 immigrants admissions over the preceding five years); since fiscal year 1995 this category (later called the Diversity Immigrant Visa category) has been allocated 55,000 visas each year[12]
  • Granted Temporary Protected Status for Salvadorians fleeing violence in the Salvadoran Civil War;[11][13]
  • Provided for the hiring of 1,000 additional U.S. Border Patrol agents, increased penalties for violations of immigration law, and expedited deportation proceedings[14]
  • Amended the "medical exclusion" provisions of the Immigration and National Act to eliminate text that let agents exclude "suspected homosexuals," and removed the psychopathic personality and mental defect language that had been used for decades to exclude suspected homosexuals.[15]

The Color Revolutions Come Home

The impeachment process brings the joys of "democracy promotion" stateside.

Nov 30Subscriber's post
The first round of televised impeachment hearings is over. What was the point?
Support for impeachment nationally was unaffected by hearings. In battleground states, public enthusiasm may even have declined. Conviction of Donald Trump in the Senate remains a fantasy, as not one Republican has budged. Despite months of constant coverage denouncing him as a criminal, Trump’s approval rating has ticked up.
In the end, impeachment may not fulfill any of its ostensible purposes, except one: as a bullhorn of crazy. Its leader, House Intelligence Committee chief Adam Schiff, is a musical comedy version of a show trial inquisitor. Vainglorious, stupid, and certain, full of tears to be shed for party, never using two words when there’s time for a hundred, the California Democrat is using the circus to right a smorgasbord of wrongs.
He seeks to restore fealty to theories of foreign subversion villainously forgotten by the post-Mueller public, denounce as “conspiracy theory” rumors of wrongdoing by the intelligence and enforcement agencies, discredit all disobedient/non-credentialed media, and declare as a matter of law the error of voters who in 2016 set in motion events that led to the undermining of our sacred national security consensus.
If the flavor of the PR campaign against “dictator-like” Trump feels familiar, it’s because we’ve heard it before. At least, I have. I feel like I’ve been watching the same story on an endless loop for almost thirty years.

American diplomats push unpopular “reforms”; nationalist movement rises in response; America tries to overthrow the nationalist.
We call it “democracy promotion,” and I got to watch it up close, over a dozen years in developing countries like Russia, Mongolia, and Uzbekistan.
“DP” begins with starter kits of party-hardy young American consultants breezing into foreign capitals, where they hang out only with each other in a conspiracy of monolingualism. Their first job is assigning White Hats and Black Hats to local politicians, based upon which are and are not friendly to American business interests.
Step two is making sure White Hats remain in power forever, and Black Hats stay out. In almost 100% of cases, this involves pushing policies that inspire local populations to hate us. Even where they never existed, we create rationales for anti-American movements.
Russia and Ukraine, the two central players in the impeachment drama, were prime examples.
In Ukraine in the early nineties, we forked over $371 million in loans through the World Bank back in return for “reforms.” “Reform” was code for austerity, i.e. budget cuts causing mass layoffs, the end of agricultural subsidies, and raised prices for food, heating oil, rent, and a host of other day-to-day costs. We also sponsored high-speed privatization programs with the aid of geniuses from institutions like Harvard.
These programs massively accelerated corruption in both countries, as White Hats in Moscow and Kiev used the opportunity to “privatize” valuable state assets into the hands of cronies.
When anti-American sentiment rose in response, our consultants thought it was fake news. The notion that ex-communist peoples might associate them with economic misery or corruption had to be vicious rumor. After all, newspapers were filled with tales of happy foreigners transitioning to a market economy, enjoying the thrills of VCR ownership, Pizza Hut, etc. Russia even had its own IKEA!
In an amazing example of how we chased bad decisions with worse ones, we helped arrange a $10.2 billion I.M.F. loan in 1996 that, in a conspicuous coincidence, almost exactly matched Boris Yeltsin’s Chechen war debt. In other words, to protect our White Hat in Moscow, we essentially financed the invasion of Grozny.
By the late nineties we’d helped put millions of Slavs out of jobs, turned off their heat, canceled their health care, jacked up rents, created a swinish oligarch class (to create a financial firewall against communism), and helped finance a brutal war on their territory.
Unsurprisingly, nationalist movements surged, forcing the U.S. to meddle more, to protect the initial meddling. This interminable stupidity cycle is the hallmark of American foreign policy.

............................ and he goes on with a lot more that will make you think.  I hope.

Thanksgiving and Conscience

Thanksgiving, this vital holiday that seems so connected to the goodness that is in our Nation's soul, is the aspiration, the attempt, through gratitude, through  a community that may not be perfect to celebrate these moments of Life and the slender threads that keep us alive and in well being.
The last 3 pages of these 8 excerpts have now turned the page and the small peace that our European Ancestors carved out with the Native Americans in New England that had basically held for almost 54 years was about to disintegrate. 1621 to 1674(?) ....
The whitewash of American History has been swept away. The brutal history is revealed day after day, it is not at all a proud picture this story of European Conquest across the globe, yet within this mess of destruction a mix of greed, fear, and domination is the greater push that has been mankind battle from the beginning. Not a battle of race versus race but the inner battle within any race, within any tribe, within any family. How does the connection of all Life, gain traction. Does anyone think that 1621 is really over in 2019 soon to be 2020? Does anyone really believe that if we condemn with enough passion the misdeeds of anyones' ancestors that they will displace the challenge that faces us today.
Is there any doubt that this Planet is in a severe crisis brought on by the 'success' of this global human civilization. That this crisis is as much of European Domination which another translation of that might be the People with the greater Power of Violence, this crisis is still the crux of our existence to this day. That we are ruled by people with greed fear and domination whose ultimate belief that we can manipulate 'Life, Nature .. other People' to gain profit is still the dominant paradigm.
Got to break through and end the war against : '... the Other' .. the Savage.. the Deplorable.. the Liberal .. the Democrat... The Conservative ... ... Nature and Life itself.  The mystery keeps unfolding.

A friend tells me today... 'The Liberals aren't Liberal and the Conservatives aren't Conservative.'

Isn't it great to be living in a country where you will not go to jail for speaking your own mind. The cowardice that I might feel by looking at 'popular opinion' and the 'righteous anger' of my cool friends has to be .... overcome. 'Silence is Betrayal' as someone once said.... I certainly would Not vote for Impeachment and would like to see a greater investigation in all the backroom schemes hidden in the Ukraine and even more hidden in the USA ... from the assassination of JFK ... Immoral President!? try Saint! RFK/MLK/Merton/Watergate Slime/October SurpriseReagan/ Iran Contra Crack Nafta/Free the Banks/Tax Social Security Benefits/ Immigration Unlimited/But It's the Economy/Burn Down the Planet/

Ignore Your Obama Commission throw another 20 Trillion on the Fire/ Go Bernie and Warren!/Hate your Ancestors/ but whatever you do don't ever think your actions matter Remember someone else is always to blame ... the Energy you Burn ... couldn't possibly affect the Planet!

This exercise in free association has been approved by yours truly and Is EXACTLY (huh! ?) what I mean... Hope you all are having a splendiferous evening!
May the River of Universal Love carry you safely Home. Good Luck and

WSJ: Celtics Earth Rebel

Enes Kanter, the Boston Celtics’ new center, isn’t the kind of athlete who is content to shut up and play. When LeBron James seemingly sought to placate China, chiding Houston Rockets general manager Daryl Morey for a tweet supporting protesters in Hong Kong, Mr. Kanter tweeted, “Wow dude,” accompanied by a hand-to-face emoji. For good measure, he added “SMH” (shaking my head) and a barfing emoji. Last week, Mr. Kanter took to Twitteragain to lambaste Rep. Ilhan Omar (D., Minn.) for voting against a bill to place economic sanctions on Turkey for its military offensive against Kurdish forces in northern Syria.
Mr. Kanter reserves the bulk of his censure, though, for President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s rule over his native Turkey. He has called Mr. Erdogan the “Hitler of our century.” After practice one afternoon, Mr. Kanter begins rattling off statistics of judges and prosecutors jailed, journalists imprisoned, newspapers stifled and schools closed—all part of a government crackdown following a failed coup attempt in July 2016.
“Right now, 17,000 innocent women are in jail—with babies,” Mr. Kanter says. “Turkey is putting more journalists in jail than any other country. That one makes me so pissed. There’s no freedom of speech. Over 6,000 academics have lost their jobs. One of them was my dad.”
His sustained denunciation of Mr. Erdogan has made Mr. Kanter, 27, a wanted man. He receives regular death threats. Prosecutors in Istanbul allege that Mr. Kanter belongs to the Hizmet movement of Fethullah Gulen, a cleric and former ally of Mr. Erdogan who lives in exile in the U.S. Mr. Gulen advocates a modern, moderate version of Islam and criticizes Turkey’s increasingly autocratic government; his movement has a significant following in Turkey. Mr. Erdogan and his allies say that Mr. Gulen’s acolytes are cultists plotting to take over the state and blame them for fomenting the 2016 coup. Earlier this year, Turkey issued an Interpol Red Notice for Mr. Kanter—a kind of international arrest warrant—labeling him a “terrorist.”
“The only thing I terrorize is the rim,” tweeted Mr. Kanter in response, along with a video of himself dunking. The U.S. and other countries have chosen to ignore the notice.

After Turkey labeled Mr. Kanter a ‘terrorist,’ the Celtics center tweeted, ‘The only thing I terrorize is the rim.’ PHOTO: JASON GROW FOR THE WALL STREET JOURNAL
Mr. Kanter’s family members, who are barred from leaving Turkey, have had to distance themselves from him for their own protection. In August 2016, his father publicly disowned Mr. Kanter in a letter published in a pro-government Turkish newspaper (“I apologize to our president and the Turkish people for the shame of having such a child”). On Twitter, Mr. Kanter disowned his family in turn. “It was one of the toughest days,” he says. Still, in September 2016, his father, a professor of histology and genetics, was dismissed from his post at Istanbul University. Mr. Kanter says that his sister, a doctor, can’t find anyone willing to hire her.
Mr. Kanter’s father, who has been charged with “membership in a terror group,” now faces trial—and a five- to 10-year sentence if convicted. The family’s communications remain closely monitored. “If [the government] see any messages from me, they would all be in jail,” says Mr. Kanter. “Last time I spoke to them, I can hardly remember.”
He initially wanted to play soccer, a far more popular sport in Turkey.
Basketball is his escape and his calling. The 6’11” center, often considered one of the best offensive rebounders in the NBA, initially wanted to play soccer—a far more popular sport in Turkey. But because of his height, he was always made a goalie. “I was like, this is too boring. Just standing here catching soccer balls all day.” Mr. Kanter switched to basketball when he was 13 and discovered he “was really good at it.”
At 17, he moved to the U.S., and two years later, in 2011, he was drafted by the Utah Jazz. He went on to play for the Oklahoma City Thunder (2015-17), the New York Knicks (2017-19) and the Portland Trail Blazers (2019) before signing a two-year, $10 million contract in July with the Celtics.
Mr. Kanter is gradually introducing his new Boston teammates to Turkish cuisine. (He had reportedly gotten his former Thunder teammates hooked on kebabs.) “There’s actually a good Turkish restaurant here,” he says. “We had a cheat day there. They liked it. They’re getting used to it. I’m like, this is Turkish delight.”
Though Mr. Kanter tries to leave politics off the court, his decision to speak out against Mr. Erdogan still shadows his game. Several sports channels in Turkey, which has a growing NBA fan base, have declined to air games in which Mr. Kanter has played. When the Trail Blazers, his former team, made it to the Western Conference finals last year, many Turkish fans cheered for other teams to win so that they would be able to watch the finals.
In December, the Celtics will head to Toronto for Christmas Day games, but Mr. Kanter will have to watch from his sofa. The Turkish government revoked his passport in 2017, and he hasn’t been able to travel abroad since. A legal U.S. resident, he is seeking American citizenship and hopes that he will soon be able to travel anywhere—though not, he knows, to Turkey.
One of his few remaining links to his homeland is Mr. Gulen, who lives at a compound in Pennsylvania. “Whenever I go there, it’s a very peaceful time for me,” says Mr. Kanter. “America has given me a lot, but you still want to hang out with people who know your language, know your culture, eat Turkish food.”
The outspoken athlete and the reclusive preacher met in 2013 after Mr. Kanter began criticizing Mr. Erdogan’s rule. Mr. Kanter happened to be at the compound with Mr. Gulen when the July 2016 coup attempt took place; the Celtics player remembers watching Mr. Gulen cry and pray as they watched the news and learned of the people killed. Soon after, Mr. Erdogan started blaming Mr. Gulen for the failed coup. “I was like, are you kidding me?” says Mr. Kanter.
He still looks to the elderly cleric for guidance. “He always tells me, ‘When you see a person, see a human first. Ask one question—how can we make this world better together?’”
‘If you have a platform, I feel like you need to use it.’
Last summer, while his teammates were playing videogames and jetting off on vacation, Mr. Kanter organized 50 basketball camps in 30 states. “My friends were saying, ‘Oh my God, man, you’re going to make so much money.’ I thought, ‘You know what, I’m going to do all the camps for free.’ If you have a platform, I feel like you need to use it. If you talk about the right things, kids will follow in your footsteps.”
Mr. Kanter is excited about his new city and his new team, but as soon as he is off the court, his thoughts fly back to Turkey. “What else can I do? Am I doing enough? I’m trying to use my story to tell their story,” he says, referring to Turkish citizens suffering back home. “The more successful I get, the more awareness I can create.”
