Onward

We have no choice. Onward it is.
  And who would choose backward?

Maybe a smart lemming at the outskirts of the pack.

I'm not into backwards, though some might think I am pretty much someone who drags his feet at the notion of change. New operating systems drive me crazy... I can't stand 'developments' from sea to shining sea, but somehow we survive and God knows we have to change. Pretty much the greater powers of birth and death, death and birth keep us clued into the notion that Life isn't an event that we can assert control of.
Not by a long shot.

Change. Can't stop it if you tried.

Out of time. Just like that... we may be called oh no I am just finally getting around to writing my masterpiece. Tough luck Holmes, the greater masterpiece just rang your bell.

Every Step Is Important - Christmas 2008

Every step is important. You know that.. every boring day, every hour where we are tired and lost and struggling, still every step is important. Even when we don't know where we are going, or if we think we do .. how to get there if we wanted. We have to maintain a sense of connection to Life with Faith, a sense of cockeyed optimism, even if we don't have a clue.

I think we are building a new economy really it might sound like I am completely nuts or high on something and yes it has been a very relaxing day with family and I did round it out with some music at the Sleeping Lady Cafe, me getting to make a bit of that music myself, still a good ways to go before primetime is ready for me.

Through all the falling pieces of a civilization lost from its moorings, we will be working our way through. Its all about keeping honest work alive on a community basis, real service, real services, products created with pride and patience.. built to last. That's what we are doing it won't happen overnight. Make somewhere your home. Don't discount how important family is, don't feel you need to move far away.

Listen to me. Giving advice like I know.

  I can't help it.

We need to know that our strength this country's rise to solvency and financial health will be a very basic affair, people taking care of their business, who understand Respect for Nature and in fact that every small business on this Planet and maybe big business too if they get with the people enough to survive we a have to make it Our Business.

Our business. I am envisioning a great movement that can grow like a wild weed, if it was Our business to build economic prosperity through the growth of independent businesses. Not because it is some cool political rebellion of sorts but because we have to survive. WE have to find ways of sharing energy, putting each other to work. The intelligence resides in the people, not in our Corporate dominated world. The bigger they get the absolutely dumber they are, plus there only motive is the growth of their Corporation. That's why we are in the fix we are today. They are not motivated by the benefit of People nor the Health of our Environment.

Dinosaurs will be falling, and it is not our job to keep them alive.

I know you might say Guy, how come with all your dreaming optimism talk. You can't make any kind of successful business for your self.  Aren't you kind of being hypocritical too some extent. .. and I Sigh, and say..  I talk to encourage myself, too. I have to remember that every step is important, I'll find a way.

Broken Hallelujah

My Mom sent me a copy of a sermon a Unitarian Minister gave based on the Leonard Cohen song. It added to whatever inspiration was flowing last night. As I read the piece I
thought of getting into Fairfax for Danny's Tuesday show at 19 Broadway where he frequently takes that song to the levels that would make Leonard proud and brings tingles to the spine and soul.

I stayed put at the Wilkins strangely there seems to be a uniformity of opinion up here about the economy and Wall Street, 'the mob' as one senator spoke disparagingly of the great mass of uneducated (uneducated to the power/money world of Washington DC) people who rose up and flooded congresspeoples mailboxes and phones that first week when the $700 Billion bailout idea first came out a few months back. The 'mob' of people who think that this nation is greater than Wall Street and probably could do far better with far less Federal Government intervention in anything and everything whether neo-con or neo-lib. Stand Back - let the Free Markets of free people do their thing. Of course I would urge any and all who have anything invested in Wall Street to begin their divestment now. It's a casino that's all it is.

Community Investment.... hmmm what would that look like?

Start with local Farms. Businesses that serve real needs run by honest people. Let the money flow, but don't send it away to Wall Street or to DC. The Current, Currency... Electric in Nature... our Life's Blood. What do I know about money? Not much based on personal levels of success so far, so don't listen to me.

Yesterday was a brutal day here in Marin.

The discovery of a deceased female in San Rafael behind a local nightspot (5 blocks from my Wilkins Hotel lodging) has sent shivers of dread through all who glanced at the story and more so those of us who go out once in awhile to such establishments and that very place to have a drink, see friends hear some music. I am praying right now that it is not someone I know as the identity of the victim hasn't been released. It is such a dangerous world, to all the young women of the world, please be careful let the pendulum swing back to a more cautious time. Don't give yourself away so easy. I have no knowledge or clues as to who or how or any of that. I can't make any assumptions, I do know there is a bunch of Guys who hang out here who many have tattoos and smoke cigarrettes and are nothing but angels, for the most part it's just a little community.  There are times when I have said ''Bleepin' Animals!' under my breath or maybe aloud, as a cab driver when I witness the crap of Male stupidity under the influence. Talking mostly about the Yuppie class, future Wall Street investors ... Male stupidity, not that I deserve a free pass.  God.

Then there was the shooting death by San Anselmo Police officer of a mentally disabled man armed with knife on the same day. This followed by about one week my conversation with an off duty officer in the back of my taxi. I asked him about the training of police officers in regards to handling situations exactly it seems as the latest in San Anselmo. Yes he says there is special training to teach an officer how to handle such upset people but... officer safety first.

It seems a lot of people want to know why can't they just shoot someone in the thigh.?

A Good Test

That's what it is.  A test of our character. A test of our American character.
I think you know what I am talking about. I don't know that much about Economics.

I believe there are simple laws of justice, balance and truth that have been and are being violated by many in our world of commerce. That's why we are in trouble there is no value to the American people in propping up those whose only goal is to extract money from us. Their product is so empty they don't even know what product it is, too damn big most all of them.

Why do we need more crap?

I believe on the other side of this process a renaissance for American Creativity, Independence, Self-reliance. Spurred by major survival skills, a willing sense of humor, great patience and bit of that stuff our ancestors might call Providence. Most of all I think we are going to have to be willing to share and I am not talking about your rototiller (guard it with your life), your guitar
or your girlfriend. I am thinking about sharing your survival skills, your willing sense of humor, your patience in the face of adversity and maybe a touch of Grace if we are so blessed. Even us bums can catch an updraft once in awhile.

I am out on a limb with all of this, call it a Prayer from one barely off the streets.

Up to my own Devices

Right here right now. That's it.
I know you are hoping I have something to say. There is too much to say.
My wits about me. It's nice to have your wits about you, you know what I mean?
If I had more days with my wits about me.. who knows anything could be possible.

I have a few wits about me not a busy enough hum at the moment to .. well who knows?

I am visualizing me as sort of a molecule with a hum of happy electrons buzzing around me
all fired up hitting every synapse in a pretty upbeat maybe groove sort of sharp thinking man that I long to be.. when I grow up.

Cut it out Guy, easy on that same old self-deprecation.

The most important thing in these days of anxiety is a find a way to quit worrying...
My progress on the Virginia State Fair Video remains slow. It is happening.

My San Anselmo letter to the editor still waits unfinished.

100s of people walked  a candlelight procession through San Rafael tonight protesting the lack of emergency housing for the homeless. I saw it on TV. I was visiting a friend's house, I had intended to make it, it skipped my mind. So be it. I have the voice of the lovely Andrea Maddox
singing on my home website www.Lifesignsphoto.com for your listening pleasure. I'll figure out how to put music on this so called Blogspot some day I hope. San Rafael is a tough city and Marin County the most Liberal elite environmentalist county perhaps in the country is running
a most destructive game of development, in the same old name game it used to be called for  progress, now development comes in modern flavors. 'Green' development, development to relieve congestion, development to provide Affordable Housing. How could someone who grew up in this county, a county that maybe if Teddy Roosevelt had wandered through maybe he would have just declared it a National Park? That gorgeous, it what once was. How could someone who loved this county think that building some affordable housing complex is an answer? I just distrust the government's well meaning backed by NonProfits and developers answers.

Obama continues to look and sound great. I disagree with just about everything that's coming out of our Capital or is it Capitol and that's really hard to do because as usual nothing is really being spelled out. But that's why you assemble the best teams the Planet has ever seen. This is it Barack this is it the Change we are going to get one way or another. We have to find a way to survive without he weight of the 'too big to fail Corporations' of America on our shoulders. Let them fall, greed and stupidity getting increasing doses of Big Government to monitor them..
Can we think this over? Pain one way or another that's for sure but the sooner the big money gambling with the Earth tycoons know real poverty the sooner the renaissance of America and the really Free Enterprise system begins. Echo chambers.. Barack you claim you want to get out of the 'echo chambers'. Please do. Americans can take care of ourselves. We'll find
a way. That's our heritage that's our DNA as a country.
