If I told you I went to Woodstock some 50 years ago and feel some empathy for
President Trump, would that disappoint you? When people tell me I have
to believe a certain way, the more I looked for the reasons why not.
I am burdened by the weight of my conscience and the state of the Planet.
Conscience and the Environmental Movement, a connection that one might
believe would be cause and effect. It appears that most of my community here
in Marin will despise Trump and be convinced that it is Republicans and Corp-
orations that are the root of the destruction of the Planet. Could the convenient
displacement of responsibility be the root of almost all our problems on the Planet?
An ‘Environmental Movement’ that thinks electing someone or passing laws will be
the answer is in my mind, not a movement at all just a continuation of
the spectator sport of the TV generation, make that the internet generation.
Could a Marin County community actually exist that is an independent force that
says ‘Yes!’’ let it ride on my shoulders? A force true to our inheritance from flawed
but brilliant founders. I do not believe we can make it for ourselves and future
generations unless we embrace what the term Conservative means, and not be afraid
of the word Republican, as in, you being the source of power and you being the
source of responsibility.
Is that too much? Do we crave our anonymity and with it what we hope is our
innocence? It’s not my fault. I am just an innocent consumer.
Who are we and what do we want? Ponder the importance of the lesson to our
children of responsibility. If the lesson is to ring true, you and I are not here to wait
for our children todo the right thing. You and I must attempt to lead by example.
Our Environment, this Planet, our government of the people, by the people, for the
people is all precariously on the line.
Riding a bike is being a Conservative? Saying no to Plastic is the act of a Republican?
We need to discover the path that leads through our current impasse is right in
front of us. Thank you so many of you that attempt to live it in your daily lives.
